Healing Between the Worlds

The trance state which the Shamanic practitioner enters during a ceremony allows access to the dimension where spiritual healing is possible. A sacred space is created between the Shaman and the client and within this space invisible things which affect the client are visible and changeable. Based on what is revealed within the altered state, the practitioner works with her or his Helping Spirits to move energy, extract spiritual intrusions, and ultimately restore power and wholeness in the client.

Soul loss is probably one of the most widely recognized forms of spiritual illness and also one of the oldest. Most people have had soul loss at a point of their lives during exposure to some type of trauma. When trauma, grief or abuse is experienced it is likely for part of the soul to leave the body in order to protect a person from a terrifying or damaging experience. In many cases the soul essence or soul part returns to the body and balance is restored. When a soul part doesn’t return on its own the person is living without their full essence and vitality and may end up feeling emptiness, depression, anxiety and in more extreme cases physical illness. Therapy and traditional medicine can be helpful, but on some level the aspect of soul loss and spiritual illness might have to be addressed in order for the person to fully recover. A Soul Retrieval is a ceremony in which the Shamanic practitioner journeys on behalf of the client, finds the departed soul parts and brings them back.

Animal Totems and Power Animals play an important role in the process of recovering soul parts and personal power. These wonderful allies act as guardians and protectors as well as guides who lead into the Spirit World and assist in the journeys. Throughout time many cultures recognized that animals carried great wisdom and lessons for humanity. It was believed and still is in many traditions that every person has a Power Animal or Totem linked to them during their lives. Besides the main Totem other animal helpers will appear at different times bringing important knowledge and strength needed in facing a particular challenge or situation. Through Shamanic journeying it is possible to reconnect with the Power Animal and bring it back into the body. With the connection and nurturing of this sacred relationship with the Power Animal a person can experience more confidence, courage and will have an easier time dealing with hardships and overcoming of fears.

Another common and necessary practice within the Shamanic healing wheel is extraction. Just as it is important for people to be complete in terms of their soul, it is also crucial that they are free from energetic intrusions which do not belong in their body. As people are made of energy it is possible for them to come in contact with powerful and sometimes negative energetic forces, which can enter the auric field and take up residence within. These intrusions can create problems such as fatigue, confusing or conflicting emotional states, discomfort, even pain. An extraction is a form of clearing the person of foreign and misplaced energies. There are different types of intrusions ranging from non-conscious thought forms and stagnant energies to actual spirit possessions. Depending on the nature of the intrusion, different methods of extraction are performed in order to fully clear the energies and help restore balance for all involved.

Compassionate Depossession can be viewed as a form of extraction since the end result involves freeing a client from an overshadowing energy. The difference between a possession and a non-conscious intrusion is that a possession is an intrusion by a spirit or being with a soul of its own. Energies without a soul can be removed without much resistance. Spirits or beings who take up residence within a person must be treated as individuals with their own set of problems and reasons why they are in a body that does not belong to them. Compassionate Depossession is a process in which the practitioner helps a possessing spirit leave the body they have entered and guide them to the Light or to Source where they belong. The guiding to Source aspect of depossession is called Psychopomp; it is an act of leading the souls of the departed to their proper place of rest beyond this world. Since Shamans work with both the living and the dead, they often will take on the role of assisting departed spirits into the otherworld if they aren’t able to fully cross on their own.

In the world of the living and the world of people it is almost impossible not to come in contact with disagreements, competition, greed and jealousy. These are the less compassionate aspect of the human condition and in extreme cases they can manifest into a harmful reality. Curses are one of the oldest forms of revenge, means to personal gain and ultimately spiritual warfare between people. In some cultures cursing is a recognized and common part of life and is treated with caution and seriousness. Since cursing is such an old concept, it is possible for people to carry a curse that has been cast within their family line decades or even centuries ago. Some possible effects of a curse may be ongoing bad luck, accidents, negative relationship patterns, constant money problems and other misfortunes. Curse unraveling is a method of finding and lifting a curse in a compassionate way that doesn’t cause distress or suffering but rather inspires forgiveness and letting go for all involved.

The land as well as houses and living spaces can be affected by various energies of both positive and negative influences. Space Clearing and Blessing is a process of observing and connecting with the energies that may be in a state of distress and opening up a way for them to be liberated. This work is done with the help of Compassionate Land Spirits and Devas as well as with the Ancestors who hold space for the Blessings to flow through the home and land.

Recovering of the Self, Ancestral Healing, Earth Healing and Beyond

The earth is a vessel that holds the memories of various events that took place throughout the years. Many of these memories are of distress and of suffering experienced by people, animals and the environment as a whole. Clearing stagnant energy, unraveling old curses and releasing suffering spirits are aspects of Shamanic healing which can help in the effort of restoring a much needed balance. As people seek out healing for themselves, they are not the only ones who can benefit from their journeys. Through the Spirit World it is possible to heal ancestral patterns and clear the lineage lines for future generations to come. With more clarity and vision, people can access a pure aspect of themselves which inevitably leads to understanding and living with purpose in their world. The positive outcomes of transformation and recovering of the Self create a radiant energetic signature which can offer the earth a seed for a beautiful and joyful memory.
